Trump Wins the Crowd at the CNN Town Hall
Hill: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) slammed CNN over its decision to hold a town hall with former President Trump on Wednesday night ( Hill). AOC: CNN should be ashamed of themselves. They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host ( Twitter). Collin Rugg: Donald Trump pulls out screenshots of his tweets from January 6th and fact checks CNNs Kaitlan Collins in real time ( Twitter). Clay Travis: Donald Trump just did an hour in the lion’s den on CNN. Taking everything they can dish out at him. I love it. Can you imagine Joe Biden doing an hour on Fox News? Would never happen. Biden legit couldn’t do it. He isn’t mentally or physically capable of doing it ( Twitter).

FBI Not Providing Congress File Possibly Linking Biden to Bribes
New York Post: The FBI has refused to give Congress an informant file alleging that President Biden took bribes while he was vice president, The Post has learned — setting up a possible showdown over access to the information. House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) issued a legally binding subpoena last week requiring the FBI to turn over the file by noon Wednesday, but the bureau instead replied with a six-page letter raising various objections ( New York Post). Daily Caller: The FBI wrote a six-page letter with objections to the Oversight Committee’s subpoena, instead of turning over the document. “Information from confidential human sources is unverified and, by definition, incomplete,” FBI acting assistant director for Congressional affairs Christopher Dunham wrote ( Daily Caller).

Mayorkas Deflects Blame for the Border Crisis to Congress
Just the News: Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday appeared to minimize the federal government not being able to track all of the migrants among tens of thousand expected at the southern U.S. border daily after the Title 42 immigration law expires a day later. Mayorkas, as he and others have in the past, put much of the blame for the country’s immigration problems on Congress, particularly Democrats and Republicans’ inability to agree on a plan to reform U.S. immigration system to allow people to legally enter the country while securing its borders ( Just the News). Townhall: MAYORKAS: “Our current situation is the outcome of Congress leaving a broken, outdated immigration system in place for over two decades…” ( Twitter). Bill Melugin: Per CBP sources, Border Patrol apprehended more than 10,300 migrants who crossed illegally yesterday, and Monday also broke the 10,000 threshold. I’m told these are the highest single day totals ever recorded – and it’s expected to go even higher after T42 drops tomorrow ( Twitter).

Trans Runner Upset with Olympic Committee for Protecting Female Sports
Daily Wire: Transgender-identifying sprinter Halba Diouf, a biological male who claims to be a woman, fumed over World Athletics’ decision to ban biological males from competing against women in the Summer 2024 Paris Olympics. The French native began transgender procedures in 2021 and planned on competing in the women’s 200-meter race but is now barred from the competition. The World Athletics Council announced back in March that it would no longer allow transgender athletes to compete against women in female World Rankings competitions. The move, which went into effect at the start of April, banned “male-to-female transgender athletes who have been through male puberty” ( Daily Wire). MRCTV: Most people find this necessary and good, such as World Athletics president Sebastian Coe. “Decisions are always difficult when they involve conflicting needs and rights between different groups, but we continue to take the view that we must maintain fairness for female athletes above all other considerations,” Coe said. He added that his organization’s highest priority in this decision was maintaining “fairness for female athletes above all other considerations” ( MRCTV).

Governor Newsom Reject Recommended Reparations Payout
Daily Wire: California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom praised the work of his state’s appointed Reparations Task Force – which he said had done important work to “advance systemic changes” — but stopped short of endorsing its recommendation for cash payouts of up to $1.2 million. Newsom, who appointed five of the nine members of the task force, said that finding a way to address the “legacy” left behind by the institution of slavery was a complicated issue that was “about much more than cash payments.” According to a report from The New York Post, the total reparations bill could land in the neighborhood of $800 billion — more than double California’s annual budget ( Daily Wire). National Review: The program the task force envisions is billed as compensation for the descendants of enslaved Americans, but it has defined eligibility in far broader terms than that ( National Review). California was never a slave state.

Republican AG’s Seek to Block BlackRock from Investigating in Public Utilities
Just the News: A group of 17 attorneys general is looking to block asset manager BlackRock from making blanket purchases of utilities amid concerns over the firm’s activist investing practices. Led by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita, the group filed a motion on Wednesday with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) challenging the firm’s blanket authorization to purchase large stakes in such companies, arguing that the firm is not a passive investor and will use its stakes in companies to push a political and social agenda. Specifically, the AGs seek to intervene in FERC’s reapproval of a three-year blanket authorization to “purchase, acquire, or take over $10 million in voting securities of any ‘public utility,’ ‘electric utility company,’ ‘transmitting utility,’ or ‘holding company in a holding company system that includes an electric utility company or transmitting utility'” ( Just the News). Daily Wire: Even as the ESG movement is slated to become a prevalent issue in the upcoming presidential election, especially in the Republican primary contest, one recent survey from Harvard University’s Center for American Political Studies and The Harris Poll found that 64% of respondents have not heard of the investment philosophy, although most voters agreed that investors should consider maximizing returns above other objectives ( Daily Wire).

Senator Dianne Feinstein Returns to Senate in Limited Capacity, Misses First Two Votes
Washington Examiner: Despite making her long-awaited return to Washington, D.C., this week, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) said she is still not fully recovered and will be taking on a “lighter schedule” over the next few weeks. Feinstein returned to the nation’s capital on Tuesday evening after being gone from the Senate for nearly three months due to a hospitalization caused by a shingles diagnosis. The California senator’s office had long teased her return to the upper chamber, with many congressional Democrats growing restless over her absence stalling their agenda. Although her return prompted celebration from several of her Democratic colleagues, Feinstein acknowledged it may still be a while until she resumes her full duties. She missed the first two votes of the day ( Washington Examiner).
