I just wrapped up a busy few days in the Bay Area, and one of the number one concerns I heard from people: the high cost of housing.
Here’s what I told folks: We haven’t seriously invested in housing since the GI Bill. Instead the federal government has ignored this problem for decades, claiming it’s a state and local issue. That’s bullshit.
In the Senate, lowering the cost of housing will be one of my top priorities. I’d push the federal government to get creative and increase assistance and supply.
As I meet voters, I hear from so many young people who think they’ll never be able to afford a home, and from Californians who’ve lived here for decades and fear they’ll have to leave because of rising rent. This isn’t a hopeless issue, but we need to elect leaders who aren’t afraid to take on the biggest challenges we face.
Your donation helps keep me on the road, meeting-and-greeting with voters. It’s only because of your support that we were able to host these events.
We’re just getting started—can you make a donation today that will allow us to keep connecting with Californians?
Thanks for being a part of this,
Katie Porter
