Irv Newhouse Building
Demolition of the existing Newhouse Building is winding down and is expected to be complete in the next couple of weeks.
Filling old wells:?Tomorrow, May 11, crews will decommission old wells on the east side of the Visitors Information Center Parking Lot closest to Capitol Way.
Pedestrian Bridge and Visitors Information Center Parking Lot closure:?For safety purposes, DES will temporarily close the Pedestrian Bridge over Capitol Way starting May 15. The entire Visitors Information Parking Lot will close at the same time. Both will remain closed until construction of the Newhouse Replacement Building is finished.

Pedestrian
Beginning May 15, pedestrians and cyclists should follow signs on campus indicating the alternate route to the crosswalk near the State Archives Building and Tivoli Fountain.
Traffic/Parking
On May 11, the east side of the Visitors Information Center Parking Lot near Capitol Way will be closed, and large equipment will be onsite.
Effective May 15, the entire lot will close. Only authorized construction vehicles will be allowed within the fenced area. People with assigned spaces have been reassigned to other parking locations on campus. Visitors can use the visitor parking map to find other campus parking options. Parking is easiest to find in the following lots:
- Natural Resources Building visitor lot on the corner of Washington Street
- Dash lot on the corner of Maple Park and Jefferson
- Plaza Garage visitor parking ? use the Maple Park entrance
Noise
Over the next two weeks, expect increased noise and dust between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. as the remainder of the Newhouse Building is demolished and materials removed.
