Friend — by now you’ve seen the news. Over bipartisan objections, the MAGA faction in the House has passed a debt-default bill, jam-packed with unrelated anti-environment provisions. As it stands, the bill would eliminate the wildly popular and effective clean energy investments in the landmark climate bill passed last session. It would gut public input into federal permitting and infrastructure decisions — opening the door to massive increases in drilling, and cutting impacted communities out of the decision-making process. It would worsen environmental injustice and derail efforts to protect public health. We need to move fast. The House's ‘Default on America’ bill will likely not make it to the Senate floor, but the risk is that some of its worst parts could get into a final deal to avoid economic catastrophe. Meeting this goal matters — because it translates directly to how much pressure we can put on these lawmakers. Here’s what this pressure campaign looks like right now: we just dropped five new ads calling out Republican lawmakers representing swing districts for voting to ‘Default on America’. That includes Mark Amodei (NV-02), Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06), Marc Molinaro (NY-19), Nancy Mace (SC-01), and Brandon Williams (NY-22). Each ad highlights job-creating clean energy projects in the lawmaker’s district — we’re talking about hundreds of good-paying local jobs — that would be in serious jeopardy if the House debt-default bill became law. We're completely filling the airwaves in these districts with our message — everyone's going to see these ads. A lot of the time MAGA extremists can get away with these kinds of votes because no one with a megaphone calls them out. That's not happening this time. The more pressure we can put on these Republicans to narrow the vote margin, the better chance we have to avoid a final deal that slashes environmental programs and clean energy investments. Simultaneously, we need to escalate our campaign to urge as many members of Congress and administration officials as possible to stand strong against these anti-environment attacks before they negotiate a deal. More resources will mean more calls, more messages, more ads, and more advocates demanding that the Senate and the President reject House Republicans’ hostage taking.
