For months, Heritage Action has worked diligently to outline policy solutions that would drastically reduce the crises at our southern border. It is a crisis that has been directly manufactured by Joe Biden and Democrats’ policies. Tomorrow, House Republicans have the opportunity to pass the strongest, most robust border security legislation to date and Heritage Action has issued a Key Vote in support of H.R. 2 <[link removed]> on our legislative scorecard.

The Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2) is the product of months of grassroots advocacy, committee hearings, and above all—necessity. House Republicans have proposed a complete bill that is expected to be brought to the floor of the House of Representatives for a vote tomorrow. How representatives vote on this bill will affect their overall score on Heritage Action’s scorecard. <[link removed]>

This bill fulfills key promises made by Republicans in their 2022 Commitment to America <[link removed]>. If passed into law it would:


- End catch and release
- Prevent the exploitation of unaccompanied alien children
- Close the Asylum loophole
- Complete construction of the border wall
- Fund additional resources for Border Patrol
- Revive the “Remain in Mexico” policy
- Cut off funding for non-governmental organizations that are transporting illegal aliens across the United States
- Mandate E-Verify to ensure legal employment

The need for this bill is clear. Since Biden’s inauguration, over 6 million migrants <[link removed]> from over 160 countries have crossed our border illegally, including at least 1.2 million “got-aways”. <[link removed]>

Cartels have taken advantage of our weakness by profiting off of human smuggling now estimated to be a $13 BILLION criminal enterprise. <[link removed]> And in FY 2023 alone, Customs and Border Patrol have seized over 14,000 lbs of fentanyl <[link removed]>, enough to kill 3.1 billion people.

Republicans have brought forth the only solution to solve Biden’s border crisis. In stark contrast, the Democrats have no plan and want to continue the status quo that leaves our nation’s border wide open and increases crime in our communities.
