Dear John,

None of our lives are disposable.

And yet, it’s legal for big corporations and powerful institutions to choose, over and over, to build and operate polluting facilities in Black, brown, and low-income communities in rural and urban areas across Minnesota, leading to chronic illnesses like asthma and thousands of pollution-related deaths annually. That's wrong.

Lawmakers are negotiating right now on a bill that could provide all of us with strong protections against environmental racism in our state – the Cumulative Impacts Bill. But we’ve heard that there are a handful of people trying to weaken the bill and put profits ahead of our lives, the air we breathe, and the water we drink.

Take 60 seconds to tell your legislators and Governor Walz: pass the strongest version of the Cumulative Impacts Bill, and show us you agree that none of our lives are disposable. Customize your message to have the most impact.

Certain politicians and corporations trying to put their profits ahead of our lives want to exclude rural communities from the bill and take away tribal nations’ opportunity to opt into protections. They’re also trying to block a provision that gives community members a say in whether a polluting facility can be built in our neighborhood.

Rural and Indigenous communities need and deserve protection against pollution, and we all deserve a say in whether facilities that poison our air and water can be built near our homes.

Send a message now. Tell lawmakers to pass the strongest version of the Cumulative Impacts Bill. Don’t forget to customize your message.
