[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

We wanted to make sure you saw this note from Senator Murphy about why he swore off all PAC and corporate money for his re-election. Chris knows this is the right thing to do — even if it costs our campaign millions of dollars.

If you agree with his decision to make this a 100% people-powered campaign, please consider pitching in to help us re-elect Chris today. His leadership in the U.S. Senate matters a lot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a few minutes to spare before a busy day on the Hill. So I wanted to reach out and tell you a bit about why I decided not to take a dime of PAC and corporate money — and why that makes your support even more important.

People need to know that my only duty is to represent their interests. But they see corporations and special interests flooding Washington with lobbyists and blanketing the airwaves with propaganda, and they wonder whether regular people will get a fair shake. The campaign finance system creates even more suspicion from the public, as they watch corporations use PACs and the PAC fundraising system to get access to political leaders.

I’ll admit that I took PAC money during the beginning of my Senate career. But I’ve decided that it’s not worth it. I don’t want to participate in a system where money is used to get corporations access to power. And I don’t want to leave any impression with the people I serve that I prioritize any interests other than theirs.

This decision was the right one, but it comes with a price. We’re leaving a huge amount of money on the table.

So I’ve got to count on you that much more. Senate races are just so expensive — even my race in a state like Connecticut requires raising millions of dollars. That means I need to ask:

Will you please consider making a contribution to my re-election today? Your support would mean a lot to me personally, and it would go a long way toward shifting the power back to the people.

I’m proud that we’re making this a truly people-powered effort every step of the way — from how we organize to how we fund my re-election and more.

Every action you take in support of my re-election helps show that people like you have my back on this decision. Each person sends a powerful message about what you expect from our elected officials.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
