Hello ,

I’ve got more good news for you this morning! Today, the British Medical
Association (BMA) launched its first ever survey on assisted dying - asking
their 160,000 members for their views.

The BMA is currently opposed to assisted dying and their position was cited by
many MPs as one of the key reasons Parliament did not vote for the Assisted
Dying Bill in 2015. We know, however, that doctors have a wide range of views on
this issue. Currently only a vocal minority who oppose assisted dying in any
form, usually on ideological and religious grounds, are represented by this
stance.

That the poll is happening is a significant win for the campaign . It shows that the medical establishment recognises that this issue must be
debated and that outright opposition to law change shuts down discussion and
fails to represent the views, both of the BMA’s members and of dying people.

The results of the survey will be announced in July at the BMA’s Annual
Representatives Meeting. In the meantime, we will give doctors the information
they need to vote with the evidence.

We would never have made it to this point without your ongoing support and
committed campaigning - so thanks to you for getting us here.

Keep up the great work,

Zach Moss,

Dignity in Dying

P.S. Do you have a friend, colleague or family member who's a doctor? It would be great if you
could remind them that this vote is happening and that they should make their
voice heard!
