Dear Friends,
Tomorrow, May 11th, the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) will come to an end. While most Americans will not be affected, some programs and flexibilities that have been in place the past few years will expire tomorrow. For more information on which PHE flexibilities will remain available, please visit my website or the Department of Health and Human Services.
Importantly, most Americans will not experience disruptions to accessing COVID-19 tests, vaccines, and treatments, including approved therapeutics like Paxlovid and Lagevrio. Broad access to these treatments will continue to be provided free of charge. The Biden Administration is working to ensure that transitioning these treatments to the commercial market in the fall of 2023 keeps life-saving vaccines and therapeutics affordable, available, and equitably distributed for all Americans.
If you have been enrolled in Medicaid over the past year, I encourage you to read the information below and on my website to prevent gaps in your health care coverage.
Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Provision
The Medicaid Continuous Enrollment Provision prevented states from disenrolling individuals from Medicaid, even if they no longer qualified, to expand and provide adequate health care coverage during the pandemic. This policy was terminated on March 31, 2023, beginning the "unwinding" process for states. The Connecticut Department of Social Services (CT DSS) will notify individuals if they are eligible to re-enroll in Medicaid or another health care plan.
HUSKY Health, in partnership with Access Health CT, provides Medicaid health coverage for Connecticut residents. Constituents who are enrolled in HUSKY Health should ensure that their contact information is up to date with Connecticut's Department of Social Services and wait to receive further guidance in the mail from CT DSS. If you are on a HUSKY Health Plan, you do not have to act until you receive a renewal form; the unwinding period will continue until March 2024.
How to Prepare for the Renewal Process
- Update contact information: Mailing address, phone number and email
- Check for mail from the CT Department of Social Services and Access Health CT
- If you receive a renewal notice, complete the form
To update your information: Go to Access Health CT or call 1-855-805-4325, or visit the Connecticut Department of Social Services or call CT DSS at 1-855-626-6632.
If you no longer qualify, you can apply for health care coverage through Connecticut's Health Insurance Marketplace, Access Health CT, by contacting:
