George Santos's indictment is a big deal. And we have something to add on the civil side.

Rep. George Santos arrested on federal criminal charges

John,

George Santos became notorious for the lies he told when running for office, and today, he was held accountable. The Department of Justice’s 13 count indictment paints a damning picture, including charging Santos with filing false personal financial disclosures and falsely receiving unemployment benefits.

This is a big deal, and we discovered more that needs to be investigated on the civil side:

CREW is filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission seeking an immediate investigation and enforcement action against George Santos.

George Santos's campaign committees may not have a real treasurer – which would be a violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act.

I’ll explain more below, but first, I’m asking you to make a donation to CREW to support our investigative work →

Here’s the deal, John. In January 2023, the treasurer of George Santos’s campaign committees resigned.

They then filed paperwork with the FEC stating that Thomas Datwyler, a campaign finance consultant, had taken over as the committees’ treasurer. There was just one problem: Datwyler did not agree to be the committees’ treasurer.

Almost a month later, in new filings, the committees identified Andrew Olson as their new treasurer. And, once again, there was a problem: There is reason to believe that Andrew Olson does not exist.

That might sound far-fetched, but Olson is not listed as a treasurer to any political committee outside of those connected to Santos, no one knows the name, and his listed address on the FEC forms is the former address of George Santos’s sister.

If his committees are operating without a treasurer, that would violate the FECA and FEC regulations.

Santos is hiding something and he may have broken the law. So we’re calling on the FEC to conduct an investigation into George Santos.
