Friend,

Earlier this week we wrapped up another invigorating six-week student organizer training. We had students join us from schools across the country, including New College in Florida, Central Michigan University, Laney College, and Pomona College. Students learned how to follow corporate money, map power on campus, tell persuasive stories to get messaging across, and center community-based solutions. Many of them are working on campaigns they started building during our training: Student power is successful!

Two of our students from our spring training session are staying on with us this summer as UnKoch My Campus Student Organizers and we’re so excited for you to meet them!

Shelby Hawkes is from Fort Collins, Colorado and is a  junior International Relations major at Pomona College in Claremont, California.

Alaska Miller is a 3rd year cognitive science/neuroscience student at the New College of Florida. She is involved in the New College resistance movement against the hostile takeover of her college in Sarasota, Florida. She is active in her college’s community and in community organizations in Sarasota.

Shelby and Alaska will be working on their own campus campaigns, as well as assisting us in some exciting new projects that we’ll be developing over the summer. They’ll use the skills they build during our training to help us move the needle when it comes to corporate capture of education.

Our two new student organizers will also be  showing up for our new group of students in our *free* summer training series! Are you interested in building intergenerational cross-issue coalitions, and learning how to mobilize, intervene, and transform society for the common good? Then sign up for our six week summer training!

We’re accepting applications until the end of May, so make sure you sign up today, as space is limited.

In Solidarity,

The UnKoch My Campus & Generation Common Good Teams
