Wow! We are absolutely THRILLED to report that the Advisory Committee of experts has recommended the FDA bring Opill over-the-counter with NO age restrictions!
- What happened: The vote today was by a panel of experts assembled by the FDA. It is NOT a decision by the FDA. It could take months for the FDA to officially approve allowing Opill to be sold at a CVS, Walgreens, or corner store near you. And while we hope the FDA would simply follow the advice of these experts, it is always possible they add an age restriction anyway. That would be absurd, but it's possible.
- What's next: Celebrate this recommendation online and spread the message that the FDA should follow the advice of its expert committee. We often use the phrase "follow the science" and always include that there should be no age restriction.

“I’m thrilled the Advisory Committee saw through myths, misconceptions, and condescension today, and recommended the FDA bring a birth control pill over-the-counter without age restrictions.
The Biden Administration has pledged to ‘follow the science’ from the very beginning, so I’m certain the FDA will now follow this expert advice and finally give young people one more option for accessing life-changing birth control.
We know that the far right will continue to attack and limit access to reproductive health care, and we need to ensure young people have everything they need to lead healthy lives and plan their futures.”
While this is not over yet, today was a huge victory, and a major moment in this fight! We could not have done it without you, and the thousands of young people across the country we mobilized. We will need you all in the months ahead as we push the FDA to take final action.
