Today we are writing about an alarming new issue Republicans have recently added to their platform, and are working to implement in states across the country. It’s another method to control women, John xxxxxx: ending no-fault divorce which allows women to walk away from an unhappy marriage without having to prove abuse, infidelity, or other misconduct in court.

This is outrageous and only underscores the importance of our mission. Can you rush $20.23 right now to help us elect progressive, pro-choice women who will protect our rights?

Here’s the thing: according to a recent article published in Rolling Stone, “more than two-thirds of all heterosexual divorces in the U.S. are initiated by women.”

The article states that since no-fault divorce first went into effect (in the late 1960s and 1970s), there were “dramatic drops in the rates of female suicide and domestic violence, as well as decreases in spousal homicide of women.” Researchers suspect that this drop happened not only because women could divorce their abusers more easily, but also because abusers knew that they were more likely to be left.

Now, Republicans across the nation, including in Texas and Louisiana, are considering eliminating no-fault divorce claiming that it’s because they believe it “weakens the institution of marriage.” In reality, we know their reasoning is based on their ultimate objective: controlling women.

We cannot stress this enough: WE MUST ELECT MORE WOMEN TO OUR GOVERNMENT.

These sexist, dangerous decisions that affect our bodies, our freedom, and our rights are currently being made by rooms full of men.
