Waves of grief continue to break over Texas, as the tight-knit Allen community comes to grip with the weekend's senseless shooting. As the names and pictures of Saturday's victims were released by police, hearts across the country shattered at the news that two families had lost multiple loved ones. A six-year-old boy, orphaned by the death of his parents and brother, is all that remains of the Cho family. Other moms and dads reeled at the horror of losing two elementary-aged daughters as the Mendozas did. After Nashville, Louisville, and so many other devastating tragedies this spring, people are desperate for answers. When will it end - and what can we possibly do to stop it?

Biden Admin Relents on Candle Controversy Rather than Face Lawsuit

After threatening a Catholic hospital's accreditation on April 20 over a glass-enclosed candle kept burning in a chapel, the Biden administration has abruptly folded. Last Tuesday, the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty warned it would pursue legal action on the hospital's behalf unless the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) relented from its demand that the hospital extinguish the flame. Last Thursday, CMS clarified in a conference call that it would not require the hospital to extinguish the flame.

Biden Begins Debt Ceiling Negotiations with McCarthy

President Joe Biden will host House and Senate leaders from both parties on Tuesday afternoon to discuss urgent plans to raise the debt ceiling before a June 1 deadline. Biden has not met with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) since February 1, but McCarthy's negotiating position grew much stronger after House Republicans in late April passed a bill tying a temporary debt ceiling increase to spending cuts.
