When the landmark Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed, providing billions of dollars for clean energy programs and support for families trying to make ends meet, we knew Republicans wouldn't be happy. But we never expected this: they're holding the entire economy hostage unless Congress cuts back the popular funding the funding guaranteed by the IRA.


With just weeks to go before the Government runs out of money, House Republicans are threatening to vote against raising the debt ceiling – unless Congress approves their “polluter wishlist.”

Get this: they already tried and failed to get their polluter giveaway bill written into law in February. Now they're bringing them back with even more demands for budget cuts to vital programs. Here's just a sampling of what they want to eliminate:

- Slashing investments in clean energy, environmental justice and climate action.
- Undermining bedrock environmental laws, greenlighting the approval of polluting fossil fuel projects, and rubber stamping the controversial mountain valley pipeline.
- Eliminating popular programs passed in the Inflation Reduction Act to help consumers afford energy efficient upgrades to make their homes and businesses safer, more comfortable, and reduce their energy bills.
- Cutting vital programs designed to help families trying to make ends meet.

That’s right: They’re risking a financial default so they can pass proposals that would harm consumers, communities and the country at every conceivable level.
