Dear John,

Community transformation

Community transformation training groups have recently been recognised by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as essential to thriving communities in Africa. "When Africa’s women farmers thrive, everyone benefits: the women themselves, the children in whom they invest, the communities that they feed, and the economies to which they contribute" (The Optimist email communication 22/1/20). The programs that AE run in Rwanda are amongst those programs internationally recognised as making a massive difference, and are currently benefiting the lives of 180,000 people (primarily women and children) every year, as well as serving as an outstanding model for the country and the rest of Africa.

Our intention is to see this same model rolled out across Africa, and training by the Rwandan team and our social action director Janet Mwendwa (pictured) begins in earnest in April this year.

Janet began her career with AE running the Mathare vulnerable women’s program in Nairobi Kenya 16 years ago, and has since increased her responsibilities to encompass pan-African programs, financial control and secretarial support to the International Board.

Please pray for the following:

*
For Janet: Please pray for her strength, encouragement, family, travel mercies and the Lord’s discernment as she runs the training program.

Zimbabwe in dire straits

News in Zimbabwe appears to be going from bad to worse, with the entire country now having to queue for hours for the most basic of commodities, and basic fuel for generators and transport becoming increasingly expensive and difficult to obtain. Hyperinflation (the highest in the world), lack of water, shocking unemployment, and shortages has shattered this silently suffering community, and we are calling our community to prayer for the recovery and renewal of this beautiful country, once known as the breadbasket of Africa.

AE Team leader Guide Makore says the following:

We desperately need prayer, as it never rains but it pours in our beloved country.

The political socio and economic environment leaves a lot to be desired….

Yet he still has his eyes set on reaching the city of Harare:

In spite of these struggles we are facing as AEZ and Foxfires, we are inspired by the

biblical word of God, the familyhood of the AE partnership, and the tireless support

of our prayer and funding partners.

Please pray:

*
For AE Zimbabwe to respond to the incredible needs of its community through the love of Jesus.

*
For AE Zimbabwe to respond to the incredible needs of its community through the love of Jesus.

*
For the new cohort of Foxfires that they would be effective and safe in the ministry over the next 12 months.
