As you know, Kevin McCarthy is desperately trying to flip Josh’s seat red. That’s why opposition research is such an important part of our strategy. We have to know what the GOP is doing at all times so we can respond effectively.

I was recently tasked with the job of researching what Republicans are up to in our race and I wanted to give you a brief summary of our findings (if you can chip in to help us fight back with a new ads campaign, I’ll leave a link here.)

Here is what our opposition research report found:

1. ATTACKS: Over the past 2 months, Josh has faced nearly a dozen attacks from the National Republican Congressional Committee. This is a marked increase from last cycle so clearly they believe hitting Josh early in the press is a strong strategy.


2. OPPONENT: Our first GOP opponent jumped into the race and did his first round of local press this past week. It’s still too early to know how much money National Republicans plan on pumping into his campaign.


3. MISINFORMATION: We continue to see misinformation spread quickly online in the district, especially in Spanish. This trend is something that could be easily manipulated by local Republicans as well as outside groups to disenfranchise latino voters or persuade them to vote Republican.

It’s a sobering report. When I presented it to Josh he insisted that we double down on our rapid response capabilities. This means both increasing our resources for responding to attacks, and also proactively funding positive information about Josh.
