John, we have to
ban assault weapons — no more excuses.

There have officially been more mass shootings in the US than there were
in 2023. Yet our current legislators are focused on expanding their
special interests and showing favor to those who propagate our current gun
violence crisis. We cannot keep living this way.

It is our duty as legislators and activists to stop these killings. That
starts with reinstating the assault weapons
ban. [ [link removed] ]John,
t[ [link removed] ]he fight to end this endemic of gun
violence will take all of us. Please add your name to our collective
petition to urge all lawmakers to prioritize safety and reinstate the
assault weapons ban.

As GOP lawmakers waste time debating completely unworkable bills aimed at
disenfranchising and discriminating against immigrants, poor people, and
trans children — our country is facing a real crisis. Gun violence in the
United States and our lack of gun regulation is spreading to other
countries. This is the real crisis at the border.

Not only is this crisis affecting our own neighborhoods, it’s also fueling
violence globally. The United States is the number one source of
semi-automatic weapons in El Salvador, approximately half a million guns
are trafficked to Mexico each year, and 70% to 90% of guns recovered at
crime scenes in Mexico are tracked back to the United States.

We have the immediate tools to fix this crisis, but the catch is:
Republicans in Congress are hellbent on keeping our country in this
gridlock of inaction.

The time for compromise is over,
John. We must be bold and
determined in our fight to ban all assault weapons once and for all if we
want to solve this crisis. [ [link removed] ]Please add your name to stand with me and
our collective progressive movement and call on lawmakers to choose people
over profits and ban assault weapons.

Together,

Pramila Jayapal
