Dear Friend,
Recently, the NC General
Assembly passed historic
legislation in response
to
Roe
v.
Wade
being
overturned. The “Care for Women, Children,
and
Families Act" (SB20),
is
designed to save at least 4,000 precious
unborn
babies
each
year
from
the
horror
of
abortion, and likely thousands
more
when
you
factor
in
its
restrictions against
chemical abortions.
Furthermore, with 76% of abortion-determined women reporting
that
they
would
choose
life
if
their
circumstances were different,
the
bill
is
commendable for going to great lengths
to
ensure
pro-life funding
and
resources are available
to
help
care
for
both
the
mother
and
the
child.
It is a good step in the right direction—toward making NC a destination
for
life
instead of a destination
for
abortion.
For
nearly
two
years,
we
have
been
working extremely
hard
to
try
and
save
as
many
babies
as
possible. In addition
to
maintaining a continued
pro-values presence
at
the
General Assembly,
our
team
has
sought
a
wide
assortment of strategies
to
protect the unborn.
From
filing
an
Amicus
brief
in
the
Dobbs
case
that
overturned Roe; to drafting
a
37
page
pro-life protections
bill;
to
conducting media-cited
statewide polling
on
abortion; to fielding
press
interviews from state and national
organizations like the
New York Times and the
News and Observer; to organizing
a
number
of
click-to-contact campaigns
that
amplified and connected
your
voice
to
your
legislator, we have fought hard for as many protections
for
unborn babies and their mothers as possible.
We applaud General
Assembly members
who
took
this
courageous first step in protecting
life
for
the
unborn
and
providing care for pregnant
women
in
hard
circumstances by passing the “Care for Women, Children
and
Families Act.”
However, Governor
Cooper
is
expected to veto the legislation,
because his extreme view is that abortion should be unrestricted
up until the day of birth. Governor Cooper was able to put enough pressure
on
members of his own party to vote against
their
consciences. Now that he is running
out
of
options, he's adopted
the
strategy of a bully, calling
out
four
Republicans by name and
pressuring them to vote against their consciences and their party as
well. He has announced that before he vetoes the bill, he will travel the state this week in an effort to put pressure
on these four Republicans to sustain
his veto. It will only take one defecting Republican to make that
happen. In Nebraska, pro-life
legislation was thwarted
when
just
a
single
Republican held out voting for their pro-life
bill's
advance.
We
can't
let
that
happen
in
North
Carolina.
Today we have teamed up with SBA Pro-Life America—America’s leading
pro-life group—to
launch
a
five-figure digital
campaign in response
to
North
Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper’s targeted
attacks on legislators.
However, we need to do even more. Your legislators
need
to
hear
from
you.
Would you please consider
taking
a
minute
to
contact your legislators
using
our
click-to-contact tool, and encourage
them
to vote to override
Gov.
Cooper’s expected veto?
Sincerely,
Tami & Team, NC Values
