FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Solid Waste Rates Effective June 1
?
New solid waste rates will go into effect starting June 1, 2023:
- General solid waste at the Skagit County Transfer and Recycling Station and the Sauk Transfer Station will increase from $103 to $105 per ton.
- The minimum charge for residential waste disposal will remain at $20.
Recycling and household hazardous waste drop-off will remain free for households, and rates at the Clear Lake Compactor Site will remain at $7 per 32 gallon can.
?The Solid Waste Division is funded entirely by disposal and user fees. This rate increase is part of a rate structure that was approved by the Board of County Commissioners in 2019,? said Solid Waste Division Manager, Margo Gillaspy. ?Incremental increases ensure that our system remains fiscally sustainable.?
Under the approved rate structure, per-ton rates have risen incrementally starting in 2019. The rate for general solid waste increased by $2 per year starting in 2019 and is scheduled to top out at $105 per ton. Public Works assesses the Solid Waste rate structure periodically to ensure that the system remains fiscally solvent. ?
