On January 22, 2020, the U.S. District Court in Kansas struck down most of the state's 30-year-old ag-gag law for violating the First Amendment, leaving intact only portions that criminalize causing physical damage to animals and facilities.
The freedom-crushing law, which was enacted in 1990, suppressed free speech by banning investigators from going undercover and filming at factory farms and slaughterhouses.
