A Storied Witness
Nineteenth-century Black women preachers are typically absent from systematic theology classes and texts, and they are rarely cited in sermons. This deficiency troubled Rev. Kate Hanch, and it inspired her to write a 200-page book. "They inspire me, convict me, and encourage me when I despair," she stated in the book's preface. "They present theologies that are deeply biblical and emphasize social justice, resisting the 21st-century binaries that we cannot seem to shake.
