This weekend, our nation witnessed the devastating fallout of yet another mass shooting. A gunman armed with an AR-15 style rifle opened fire at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas — killing eight people and injuring several others.

This year alone, there have been roughly 200 mass shootings. Still, extreme politicians in Congress have failed to take the proper action necessary to prevent these senseless tragedies that are tearing apart our communities.

Let's make one thing clear, John: Guns do not make our communities safer. It is a dangerous lie that continues to be parroted by the National Rifle Association, gun manufacturers, and extremist lawmakers.

It's no coincidence that the United States is the only nation where civilian guns outnumber people AND has the highest firearm homicide rate in the developed world. The guns are the problem — we need to regulate them. And most Americans agree!

According to a Fox News poll, 61 percent of Americans believe we should ban assault weapons. A vast majority of Americans also agree with strengthening background checks for all guns, raising the legal age to purchase firearms, and requiring a 30-day waiting period to purchase a gun.
