John,

As we begin Black History Month, I am reflecting on the achievements of African Americans throughout the history of our nation, and the work that still has to be done.

Last year, I had the indescribable experience of participating in the Congressional Black Caucus commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the arrival of the first slave ship to America.

In August of 2019, four hundred years after the first African people were brought to America and sold as slaves, I sat with my colleagues in Emancipation Hall – in a building built by slaves – as a member of Congress.

I am my ancestors’ wildest dreams.

Help me stay in Congress so I can ensure the American dream is a reality for future generations.

With so much gratitude for all you do,

-- Jahana
