Did you know Diana introduced a bill to ban assault weapons, Johh?
Diana has always believed there is no legitimate reason why civilians in this country need a gun that holds 30, 60 or 100 rounds. Research shows that shootings involving a high-capacity magazine – which allow a shooter to fire dozens of rounds without having to stop and reload – led to five times as many people being shot.
Created to be used on the battlefield with immediate reload capabilities, assault rifles have been the source of multiple mass shootings and can easily be customized to become fully automatic.
Just last week, a man in Texas used an assault weapon to execute five people in a house in a matter of minutes and during the weekend, another shooter murdered eight people at an outlet mall in Allen, Texas. Here in Colorado, we have seen multiple attacks throughout the years carried out by shooters armed with this very weapon.
Our people are dying, and our communities are suffering, Johh — but that's not the way it has to be.
For years, Diana has led a congressional effort to ban the sale or transfer of high-capacity magazines nationwide. Now, she's working to pass the Keep Americans Safe Act to finally ban assault weapons.
