Why does research about moms in elected office matter? The data in the report is what drives our mission and supports the argument that if we’re going to pass equitable, forward-thinking, and truly family-friendly legislation, then we MUST elect more moms.

When I was weighing the decision to run for Congress back in 2018, I searched for information about moms who had been in my shoes before, but I found hardly anything about what it was like to run for office while pregnant, or with toddlers, or while nursing. Much less what it’s actually like to serve in elected office as a mama.

The research simply did not exist. Now, thanks to Vote Mama Foundation that has finally changed.

This research has shined a light on the unique challenges that moms with minor kids face, and helps us better understand how we can dismantle the barriers that hold moms back and ultimately elect more moms.

It’s no secret: Our political system was not built for parents, and it especially was not built with mothers in mind. This is why, with great determination, we will continue to move forward and change the system. Already, we have endorsed and supported over 400 pro-choice, Democratic mamas!
