Lawmakers are being silenced for speaking out against anti-trans bills
State Rep. Zooey Zephyr's silencing is the latest example of a steadily growing trend: lawmakers under fire for backing LGBTQ+ rights. -- The 19th
It's the new tactic from anti-equality legislatures, John: censuring and silencing LGBTQ+ elected officials who stand up for trans rights.
It happened in Montana, to out trans state Representative Zooey Zephyr. It happened in Oklahoma, to out non-binary state Representative Mauree Turner. Now, Nebraska state Senator Megan Hunt received a complaint because she stood up against an anti-trans bill and defended her trans child.
These actions are ridiculous - and they're our best argument for training and supporting LGBTQ+ elected officials everywhere. They need backup, and we're working to train more candidates who will vote against these bad bills and support sitting elected officials. Pitch in today to build pro-equality majorities EVERYWHERE!
Look, we know LGBTQ+ candidates can win in states like Montana, Oklahoma and Nebraska - they've already done it! Our trainees have won tough races in Texas, Arizona and beyond. But they need the support and resources to do it. That's where Victory Institute comes in - we're one of the few national organizations that hosts trainings and summits designed to give LGBTQ+ candidates the tools they need to win.
If we're going to win seats in anti-equality legislatures and send our elected officials reinforcements, we need you on the team, John. Pitch in today to train pro-equality candidates to win everywhere!
Thanks again for your support!
