We deserved a fair and honest trial. Congress has a constitutional obligation to serve as a check on the president and hold him accountable if and when he violates his oath of office, abuses his power, poses a danger to the country, or breaks the law.

By withholding military aid to leverage foreign interference in our elections, President Donald Trump has done all of these things.

But my GOP incumbent opponent Congressman Katko and Republican members of the US Senate refused to hold this president accountable and uphold their oath to the Constitution.

John Katko chose to act more like Trump's defense attorney than our representative and voted against impeachment. In the Senate, Republicans ignored the facts, chased debunked conspiracy theories, and refused to hear testimony from witnesses. The sham trial and partisan acquittal make a mockery of our Constitution and mark a very sad day in our history.

We cannot let this defeat us. We have to channel the outrage we feel at this moment into action. We must work to elect strong progressives to every single seat we can. And that includes right here in central and western New York.

It is now up to us, the American people, to do all that we can to hold President Trump and his enablers accountable at the ballot box this November.

The amount we raise this month will determine how much impact we can make this year by mobilizing Democrats and persuading undecided voters so we can flip this swing seat and return this district -- and our government -- back to the hands of the people where they belong. I need 108 grassroots supporters to step up before midnight Saturday to stay on pace -- can I count on you to give $10 or more right now?
