More thoughts and prayers without action is NOT an option.
John, we are fed up.
This weekend, the United States surpassed 200 mass shootings so far in 2023, including a shooting at a Texas outlet mall that left eight dead.
More thoughts and prayers without action is NOT an option. This is a political issue with a political solution, and Congress could act right now to pass an assault weapons ban and common sense gun violence prevention legislation.
Summer is a cosponsor of the Assault Weapons Ban Act and isn't afraid to demand the change we need to keep each other safe. Will you add your name as a grassroots cosponsor now? This moment necessitates we mobilize together to get this done.
Summer recently joined Ali Velshi on MSNBC's The Last Word to discuss how young people are meeting this occasion.
As Summer said, young people are sick of seeing children doing active shooter drills and tired of our nation becoming complacent when it comes to gun violence. Young people are using their voices to shift our country in a new direction — and refusing to let Republicans use respectability politics to try and shut us down.
But without addressing campaign finance reform, it is going to continue to be close to impossible to pass gun violence reform even though most Americans support common sense legislation. To tackle gun violence, we must end the system that allows for dark money groups and the NRA to control politicians.
Summer and this new generation of leaders will not accept this status quo. Add your name now as a grassroots cosponsor to call on Speaker McCarthy to hold a vote on the Assault Weapons Ban Act.
