Today, as noted in an exclusive in The Hollywood Reporter ([link removed]) , Outright is proud to announce the recipients of this year's Outspoken Award: queer members of the cast and production team of the Paramount+ original series Star Trek: Discovery from CBS Studios.
Outright is proud to individually honor Wilson Cruz, Anthony Rapp, Blu del Barrio, Mary Wiseman, and Tig Notaro – who make up the queer cast of Discovery and who play queer roles on television, out and proud – for their commitment to LGBTIQ rights around the world through all they do in their life and work. Outright is also proud to honor out Executive Producer Michelle Paradise for their exemplary work on StarTrek: Discovery.
The Star Trek franchise’s core values align closely with Outright’s own: education, care, compassion, diversity, equity, inclusion, advocacy, and authentic LGBTIQ representation and storytelling. Members of the queer cast and production crew of Star Trek: Discovery are global LGBTIQ icons – courageous, and elevating the visibility and voice of millions of queer people around the world that battle discrimination and risk to their personal safety, every day.
"Through the show, the LGBTIQ community is being seen and heard in the ways we want to be seen and heard, as our truest selves, as the heroes of our own stories and our own fight for dignity and equality,” shares cast member and actorvist Wilson Cruz, who will deliver acceptance remarks at the event.

Celebration of Courage will be hosted by RuPaul’s Drag Race winner BeBe Zahara Benet. Honorees also include the Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality (ECADE), and Google.org.
Special guests include members of the band BETTY, among others! We hope to see you on June 5.

Guests of Outright’s Celebration of Courage will join a Welcome Reception on a glass-enclosed terrace with an outdoor veranda access overlooking the Hudson River and enjoy a panoramic view of the Garden State, enjoying a picturesque summer sunset. During the Welcome Reception, guests will mingle, enjoy speciality cocktails – courtesy of gala liquor sponsor Constellation Brands – and bid online via mobile device on items featured in the event’s Silent Auction.
Transitioning into the Dinner & Program sections of the evening, guests exit the outdoor veranda and enter the dining room. Outright Board directors and staff will welcome guests to the dining hall. During the Program, awards will be presented. In the spirit of giving, during this time, guests will also be invited to participate in a Live Auction and Paddle Raise to raise critical support for Outright’s lifesaving work. The evening will end with a Closing Reception and live DJ.
