POV Acquires Kenyan Documentary "Softie" at Sundance 2020
As reported exclusively by Variety, POV announced the acquisition of the U.S. broadcast rights for Sofite, directed by Sam Soko, fresh from its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival 2020. The film, which broke ground as the first Kenyan produced documentary to Premiere at the festival, will air as part of the series' 33rd season.

New Firelight Development Fund for Mid-Career Filmmakers of Color
Firelight Media plans to launch the William Greaves Fund later this year, which will offer 7-10 grants of up to $25K as well as mentorship support for diverse non-fiction filmmakers at the mid-stages of their careers. Backing the fund's mission, Senior VP of Firelight, Loira Limbal, tells RealScreen, “Over the past 10 years, we have seen too many filmmakers of color have to completely abandon the field because they can’t get their next projects off the ground...The William Greaves Fund is a response to this persistant problem.” The call for proposals opens March 1.
