Hey there,

We’ve seen a lot of people parrot a right-wing, NRA talking point lately. The gist of it is: If we trust 18 year olds in the military to handle assault rifles, why shouldn’t we do it with civilians?

Now, the short answer is: Weapons of war have no place on our streets. And if you want to join us in telling Congress that they need to take action and ban weapons of war, add your name here.

But if they want to have a conversation on weapons in the Military, let’s do that. Because access is highly regulated.

First, when you join the Military you have to undergo a background check. Novel concept.

Second, you spend WEEKS training at basic before you ever fire a weapon. Physical and mental drills that reinforce the deep responsibility of operating these weapons of war. Then you go off to technical school, where you do even more training.

Third, you have to regularly re-qualify on your weapons.

And finally, for the most part, weapons aren’t carried around on base. They’re safely stored in the armory, alongside the ammunition.

But again — there’s just no reason why anyone should be able to buy a weapon that was designed for the battlefield. It’s completely irresponsible, and incredibly dangerous.

If you agree, we’re collecting signatures — join us and tell Congress that they need to take action and ban these weapons of war.
