Dear John,
CNN has announced that it is is giving Donald Trump a one-hour live prime-time town hall special this Wednesday night.
This is the man who stoked a deadly insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, is currently on trial for rape, and has been indicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.
What on earth is CNN thinking?!
Friends, the corporate media is failing us. Again. We’re fighting back by calling on CNN to cancel this shameful spectacle and using our social media following to debunk Trump’s lies.
Will you make a donation to help spread the truth, continue to inoculate the public against Trump’s lies, and urge CNN to cancel the Trump town hall?
Answering questions from a town hall audience, Trump will be able to spew whatever lies come into his addled brain. The moderator won’t have any realistic chance to fact check him. It’s going to be one hour of unfiltered hate and disinformation.
Handing Donald Trump a free hour of live TV to spew hatred and lies is the height of irresponsibility. It’s certainly not journalism.
Defending the decision, CNN chief executive David Zaslov said, “[We have] a divided government. We need to hear both voices… Republicans are on the air at CNN. Democrats are on the air. All voices should be heard on CNN.”
All voices?! Including a twice-impeached, insurrectionist, serial sexual abuser who everyone knows will do nothing but spew disinformation and conspiracy theories?
It is clear that the corporate media cares more about ratings than democracy, truth, or, frankly, basic journalistic standards. And that it cannot be trusted to responsibly platform Trump.
Inequality Media Civic Action was founded to fight disinformation by going around the corporate media, educating the public by directly distributing video explainers and other content via the internet. We beat back Trump’s lies in 2020 and during the midterms, and we need to do it again.
Please make a donation to help fight Trump’s lies and urge CNN to cancel the Trump town hall.
Thanks for joining with us in the fight for truth,
Robert Reich
