(May 8, 2023, Washington, DC) - On Sunday, May 14th, many cities in the United States will be holding simultaneous demonstrations commemorating 75 years of the “Nakba”. “Nakba” is an Arabic word meaning “catastrophe”, and the catastrophe means the very existence of the state of Israel.
The groups sponsoring this rally in our nation’s capital include The Council for American Islamic Relations, (CAIR), American Muslims for Palestine, Palestinian Youth Movement, Palestinian Christian Alliance for Peace, Maryland 2 Palestine, The Arab American Anti-Discrimination Committee, The US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, Virginian Coalition for Human Rights, The US Council of Muslim Organizations and The Jewish Voice for Peace.
As this demonstration clearly indicates, these organizations are not concerned about the 1967 borders, but the 1948 borders. They are not proposing a “two-state solution”, but a “one-state solution”, named “Palestine”, and as their frequently repeated chant declares, “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”; meaning from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea, leaving absolutely no room for the very existence of the state of Israel.
Says Sarah Stern, Founder and President of EMET, “It is profoundly sad that, despite the fact that Israel has made countless offers for a two-state solution, they have all been summarily rejected by decades of Palestinian negotiators. And it is profoundly clear that this is not a war over any specific borders, or boundaries or “the occupation”, but about the very existence of the state of Israel.”
