Happy Teacher Appreciation Week, John!

As a sister to two public school teachers, I will admit I’m a bit biased, but I think teachers are some of the most important people in the world.

They help generations of children grow, learn, and discover their passions. Each and every one of us has at least one teacher who left a lasting impact on our lives – I know I do.

That’s why this week is dedicated to them. But it wouldn’t be right of me to celebrate teachers and all that they do without acknowledging the ongoing shortage Arizona is experiencing due to the failures of past and current elected officials.

Teacher pay, school resources, and public education investment as a whole have been neglected for far too long by extreme Republican legislators.

Rather than support those who are responsible for teaching Arizona’s next generation of leaders, extreme Republican state legislators are trying to ban books from classrooms and erase important history from our academic programs.

I won’t stand for it any longer, which is why I’m doing everything in my power to address Arizona’s teacher retention crisis and invest in our public schools.
