Senate Republicans have chosen to shirk their Constitutional duties by voting to acquit Trump in a trial with no evidence.
Friends,
Our system of checks and balances maintains that no one, not even the President, is above the law. But rather than hold him accountable, Senate Republicans have chosen to shirk their Constitutional duties by voting to acquit Trump in a trial with no evidence.
I called for the initiation of impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump because the American people deserved to know the truth, and nothing but the truth.
And I voted in support of both Articles of Impeachment because the truth is this -- President Trump abused the powers of his office for his own personal and political gain, and then systematically worked to obstruct Congress’ investigation into his misconduct.
And though our faith in our institutions may rightly be shaken in this moment, remember that liberty lies in the hearts of men and women -- in the overwhelming majority of Americans who called for the truth, and nothing but the truth.
So yes, be angry at those who would damage our democracy rather than alienate their donors.
Be angry at those who would undermine the rule of law in order to clutch on to political power.
Be angry, and then give everything you’ve got to voting them out. Because the fight for the soul of our country is far from over.
