It’s National Teacher Appreciation Week, John – and I’d like to stop for a minute and express my gratitude for educators in PA-06 and across the nation.

My father came to the United States as a refugee, and he instilled in me and my brother that a good education is one thing that no one can take from you. He’s right – and what’s more, education is only possible thanks to the dedicated, steadfast work of our educators.

Do you remember your favorite teachers? I do. Teachers make everything else possible, and investing in education is investing in the future of this country (and the world). In fact, I was at my high school just a few weeks ago and was able to thank a few of them in person!

As a mother and former teacher for Teach For America, I know that access to quality, affordable education for all children is critical. Since entering Congress, I’ve introduced legislation that supports education and educators, like the bipartisan READ Act, which creates a grant program allowing states to help teachers access resources for literacy instruction and for identifying at-risk students.

I’ve also co-sponsored the bipartisan Teacher Diversity and Retention Act and the bipartisan Supporting Early-Childhood Educators’ Deductions (SEED) Act, both of which would support more teachers and educators in their professions, which are highly demanding. I’ve seen the need for a more diverse teacher workforce and for a focus on early childhood education firsthand!

To address the STEAM skills shortage, I introduced the bipartisan Mathematical and Statistical Modeling Education Act, which would advance innovative approaches to support and sustain high-quality mathematical modeling education.

This work is far from over, John – there are still so many ways we can support teachers in the classroom and in their communities. This Teacher Appreciation Week, I’m reflecting on all the work we’ve done so far – and all that remains to be done.

If you’re a teacher, thank you. (If you’re not a teacher, thank one you know for me!)

As always, there is work to be done,

Chrissy
