Dear John,

Today, our elected officials failed this country.

The vote to acquit President Trump without a real trial is a blow to our democracy and to the rule of law. It sends a terrifying message that the most powerful person in our country can abuse his power and get away with it.

I’m angry and heartbroken, and I know you are too. But we can’t let despair stop us. We need to take our fear and frustration and transform it into concrete action.

So John — when we cannot trust our leaders, we must turn to those who can hold them accountable. Right now, the National Women’s Law Center’s lawyers and advocates are in the courts, pushing back against this administration’s continued attacks on women and girls. We’re fighting against lifetime appointments of extremist judges who will make decisions about our democracy and our bodies for years to come. We’re doing everything we can to restrain and prevent Trump’s abuses of power. We know this administration will not stop — and neither will we.

In the weeks and months ahead, we expect the administration, no longer distracted by impeachment and a Senate trial, to be emboldened to ramp up its vicious attacks on our rights.

They are STILL working to dismantle Title IX and our reproductive rights. They want to shred SNAP benefits and access to health care, which are critical to allowing women and families to make ends meet. Greed, misogyny, and outright cruelty continue to drive major policy decisions that affect real people’s lives — from Washington, D.C., to communities across the country, like yours and mine.
At this historic moment, we have a choice. We can step back and let corruption win — or we can redouble our efforts to be the sand in the gears, to stop this administration wherever and however we can.

We MUST fight back against Trump and his allies in Congress who rushed through this sham impeachment process. We MUST fight back on the ground... on Capitol Hill... AND in the courtroom, with a fervor that this administration has never seen before. [[link removed]]
