Dear Georgian,

Last week our nation recognized the National Day of Prayer. Psalms 145:18 tells us, The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth."

Each day I pray for our nation and ask God to bless the amazing people of Georgia's Eighth Congressional District.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Celebrating the National Wild Turkey Federation

As an avid turkey hunter, I appreciate the National Wild Turkey Federation’s efforts to promote the national turkey population and support my favorite pastime.

Last week, I introduced legislation along with Representatives Jeff Duncan and Debbie Dingell commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the establishment of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

This legislation also recognizes the National Wild Turkey Federation’s significant contributions to scientific wildlife management, research, and habitat conservation, as well as promoting and protecting the long-honored outdoor traditions of the United States.

Advocating for Fair Trade

India has been egregiously over subsiding their farm sector with with trade-distorting of support, leading to artificially low-priced exports that make their way to every continent.

This violates the agreements they committed to when they joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) and puts farmers around the world at a disadvantage in the global marketplace.

I joined colleagues in sending a letter to the U.S. Trade Representative asking that they take immediate action to address their violations, especially regarding their subsidies of rice and wheat.

Congratulating Local Small Businesses

Congratulations to Cole’s Cakery in Tifton, who received the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2023 Georgia Rural Small Business of the Year award! Owners Jimmy and Jennifer Cole have done an amazing job growing their home-based small business into a full-scale operation in Downtown Tifton. They truly represent everything that makes Georgia’s 8th Congressional District so great!

I look forward to seeing their business grow in the future and hope they continue to satisfy the sweet tooth of Tifton.

Georgia Farm Bureau Berrien County farmer testfies in House Subcommittee hearing

"The U.S. House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities, Risk Management, and Credit held a hearing on Tuesday, April 26, entitled 'Producer Perspectives on the 2023 Farm Bill.' Daniel McMillan of Southern Grace Farms in Enigma represented the U.S. Peanut Federation.

McMillan presented peanut priorities for the 2023 farm bill, namely an increase in the reference price for the Price Loss Coverage (PLC) Program. Over the last few years, peanut growers have seen a significant increase in the cost of production. The 2021 cost of production was $545.97 per ton, and the 2022 cost of production was approximately $668 per ton according to Dr. Stanley Fletcher of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and professor emeritus at the University of Georgia."
