Support DC mothers advocating for their families In our Annual Report, we introduced you to Ms. Hill and her daughter, Averii. Averii loves walking to school with her mom, climbing trees and playing ball. Averii also has asthma. Last year, when we met Averii, water leaks and mold in their home made Averii’s asthma so much worse that Ms. Hill had to send her to stay with other family across the city – but that also meant missing school. Ms. Hill was determined to find a way to keep Averii at home and in school safely. Read more about Ms. Hill and Averii here. Averii and I share something important: Strong, loving mothers who would stop at nothing to make sure we are safe, healthy and learning. Luckily, we’re not alone. Every day we work with mothers like Ms. Hill who are doing everything they can to help their children thrive. But they face staggering hurdles. Thanks to your support, we’re working now to develop even more ways we can help parents overcome these barriers and have more time and resources to be there for their children. This Mother’s Day, help us keep advocating for them and for all the dedicated women in DC stepping up to help raise the children in their lives. For every donation, we will mail or email a personalized card to a woman in your life. You can also donate in memory of a loved one and send the card to someone who will appreciate sharing in her memory. Join me in celebrating this Mother’s Day by helping moms who do everything they can so that their children will thrive. I will make my donation in memory of my mother and in honor of Ms. Hill, who reached out to Children’s Law Center after her landlord repeatedly ignored her pleas. Together, we were able to advocate for permanent fixes to the leaks in their home. Averii is breathing better today and back in school, and Ms. Hill is helping other moms like her advocate for healthy housing for their families.
