Jack, the U.S. government may run out of "extraordinary measures" to pay off its existing debts by June 1st: an unprecedented fiscal calamity.
This coming Tuesday, President Biden will meet at the White House with congressional leaders to find a solution to avoid default. With the clock ticking, we cannot allow them to sign off on a rotten deal that leaves families poorer, veterans sicker and children hungrier.

Right-wing extremists in the House of Representatives are exploiting the situation to demand cruel budget cuts that bring harm to low-income and middle class families and communities while further enriching the wealthiest among us. The extreme ransom note that House Republicans passed on April 26 would eviscerate social services, and likely plunge our economy into a deep recession.
The Senate Budget Committee held a hearing this week, but every senator needs to get the message: we will not tolerate cuts that worsen poverty and hardship. As Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said: "attempting to extract partisan policy confessions with threats to intentionally drive the American economy off a cliff is the very definition of extremism."
