Folks,

As a U.S. Senator, I took an oath to uphold the Constitution, defend our democracy, and ensure no one is above the law. This is an oath I take very seriously.

Based on the evidence that was available to me during this trial, I believe President Trump abused his power by withholding military aid from an ally for personal political gain, and that he obstructed legitimate oversight by a coequal branch of government.

That’s why I had no choice but to vote for Donald Trump’s impeachment today.

I went into Donald Trump’s impeachment trial promising to fulfill my duty as an impartial juror and fighting to ensure the American people had access to the truth. But it’s clear Senate Republicans had a different outlook.

From the start, Mitch McConnell did everything he could to protect Trump and block the American public from seeing crucial White House documents and hearing from relevant witnesses that could have provided us with important information.

This wasn’t a fair trial at all. This was a complete sham.

After witnessing the charade Senate Republicans put on display, it’s clear: the only way we can bring back accountability to our government is if Democrats take back the majority this year. I’m doing everything I can to elect Democrats in tough districts, but I can’t do it alone:

Will you make a critical and meaningful donation toward our work to flip the Senate? It’s time we sent Washington Republicans packing and put power back in the hands of the people.

It’s a sad day for this country, and for all Americans who believe that no one -- not even the President of the United States -- is above the law.

The American people deserve leaders they can trust to do right by them. But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have let countless bills die in their legislative graveyard, covered for Trump whenever necessary, and ignored their constituents in favor of wealthy interests.

I’m confident that if we can turn this anger into energy and action, then nothing -- not McConnell, Trump, or their money machine -- will be able to stop us.

Thanks for pitching in,

Jon
