John,
We had to tell you about a HUGE win for accountability out of Arizona!
On Thursday, the AZ Supreme Court sanctioned Kari Lake’s lawyers for including unfounded election conspiracies in their court filings. You probably remember that Lake lost the AZ governor’s race by 17k ballots – but she continues to claim that she won.
Arguing on her behalf, her lawyers said in court filings that it was an “undisputed fact” that tens of thousands of Maricopa County ballots were mishandled during the 2022 election.
That’s just … not true. As the AZ Supreme Court explained in its ruling, the record shows that didn’t happen. But the lawyers were more focused on their MAGA messaging strategy than the facts, and kept repeating their disproven claims.
It’s the same “Big Lie” strategy that we’ve seen from election deniers like Kari Lake all over the country:
Step one: tell a whopper about how the election they lost was somehow "rigged,"
Step two: swear it’s true and that it means they won the election they lost, and,
Step three: get it into the public record (like a court filing) where it can be cited as “fact” by other election deniers.
What they’re doing is dangerous.
These aren’t just words – they’re a key tool in the voter suppression toolbox. When people start believing their voice doesn’t matter because “it’s all rigged anyway,” they stop voting.
That’s why having permanent, year-round voter protection teams in battleground states is so critical: we fight voter suppression by curing ballots, advocating for best practices, and helping to register voters.... but it's more than that, too.
It’s empowering voters by showing them how their vote does count – and making sure it does. And, it’s rebutting the lies spun by conspiracy theorists that they use to try to overturn the election results.
That’s the kind of pro-democracy work we support 24/7/365 in battleground states like Arizona (and Georgia, and Texas, and North Carolina). [[link removed]] Chip in now to support our work in AZ! [[link removed]]
Undermining confidence in our elections is one of the most serious threats to our democracy. But all too often, the election deniers who are casting doubt on the very underpinning of our democracy don’t suffer any consequences.
That’s why we were so thrilled to see the AZ Supreme Court’s sanctions of Lake’s lawyers, because – as they said:
“[T]he public has a strong interest in ensuring the integrity of elections.”
And “the public” the AZ Supreme Court is talking about?
That’s you.
Our democracy only works if you (and I, and the whole rest of the country, for that matter) believe in it and we all participate. That’s why Power the Vote supports permanent year-round voter protection programs that empower and educate voters.
We support the advocacy and relationship-building work in these battleground states to fight back against voter suppression and advocate for best pro-democracy practices.
We help build confidence in elections by supporting monitors who observe voting and vote counting – which ensures that everything works as it should.
This work is happening right now in Arizona.
By giving today, you will be the reason they can continue that work. You, personally, will help make the mission possible.
You can help us Power the Vote by giving today to support voter protection staff in Arizona! [[link removed]]
Thanks for being a part of this movement,

P.S. The permanent voter protection programs we support are just that: permanent. They're already established on the ground in AZ now – because they never left!
That's a different model, and it's one I'm proud of: a sustained, long-term investment in voter protection.
You can make that same sustained, long-term investment in our voter protection programs by giving monthly. Knowing that you're with us helps us plan for the future – with you in it! Even $10/month makes a huge difference [[link removed]] in our planning.
Thanks in advance!
Kim

In 2020, we ran the Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Program in Georgia, when the state flipped blue for the first time in nearly 30 years.
We pioneered a new model of voter protection, built on sustained investments and long-lasting relationships.
Now, we’re building on that success and adapting the Georgia model to fight voter suppression in other states.
