Hi John,

2020 is off to a fast start for Team Bucy!  We spent time marching in parades, attended events in the community, and the House Elections Committee met for an Interim Hearing. On a personal note, my wife Molly and I were proud to welcome our first child to the world. This edition of the monthly Bucy Bulletin will cover that as well as showcase community events, discuss legislative activity over the Interim, and highlight our Artist of the Month.

WELCOMING BABY GIRL BUCY

On Sat., Jan. 25th, my wife Molly and I were overjoyed to welcome our precious baby girl to the world. At 6 lbs 12 oz and 20 inches, Bradley Harper Bucy is the perfect bundle of joy. Mom and baby are doing great! I'm so excited about being a new parent and grateful for the time we have together as a family.

TOWN HALL 3/9: TAXES & APPRAISALS

On Mon., March 9 at 6:30 pm we will be hosting a Town Hall on Property Taxes and the Appraisal Process in the Cafeteria at Vista Ridge High School, 200 S. Vista Ridge Blvd, Cedar Park, TX 78613. Rep. Bucy will be joined by Williamson County Tax Assessor Collector Larry Gaddes and Williamson Central Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Alvin Lankford who will each give a presentation, followed by a moderated discussion and an audience question and answer session. In addition, Williamson County staff will be on hand to answer questions from residents after the program. COMMUNITY EVENTS & HAPPENINGS

Red Line Extends Hours: Capital Metro's Saturday service for the Red Line has resumed after the installation and testing of federally mandated safety technology. In addition, for the first time ever, Saturday service will go all the way to Leander with rides available well into the night. Riders can also expect extended hours on weekdays as well.

Women's March: I had a great time at the Women's March! The speakers were so powerful and had a diverse spectrum of stories to tell. It's time for true equality and policies that support all Texans.

MLK Parade: We had a great time at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Austin. A lot of the speakers focused on what Dr. King taught us that, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’”

Elections Interim Hearing: The Elections Committee met for an Interim Hearing to get updates on legislation passed last session, including our H.B. 933, which requires the SOS and counties to put polling place locations and various election notices online in order to make it easier for Texans to vote and fully participate in our democracy!

LEEF Gala: We had a great time at the Leander Educational Excellence Foundation Gala! We're so grateful for all of the wonderful things that LEEF does for students and teachers in our community in the pursuit of academic excellence.

State of Leander: Our team enjoyed a wonderful State of the City from Leander Mayor Troy Hill. The numbers don't lie, Leander is one of the fastest growing communities in the area. Congrats to the Leander Chamber of Commerce for putting on a wonderful event!

HD 136 ARTIST OF THE MONTH

Each month at our Capitol Office we are so proud to display and feature work from local artists. Our January Artist of the Month was Emma Schoening, who loaned us her great works of photography Texas PTA Rally Day 2019 #1, Texas PTA Rally Day 2019 #2, Papa's Grave, and Friend's Flower.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

Elections Committee Meeting Recap
The Texas House Committee on Elections held its second Interim Hearing on Tue., Jan. 21st focusing on rule-making authority and similar agency action to ensure the desired outcome of various election-related legislation passed last session, including our H.B. 933, which requires the Secretary of State and counties to put polling place locations, contact information for county elections offices, Voter ID information, and various required election notices online in order to make it easier for Texans to vote and fully participate in our democracy!

At the committee meeting, we heard from the Secretary of State's Office and the Texas Association of Election Administrators about the implementation process of H.B. 933, including how the SOS, counties, and local jurisdictions are working to comply with the provision and streamline the process. Other bills for which the impact was examined include H.B. 1421, which strengthens the cybersecurity of the state's election infrastructure, H.B. 2504, which modifies ballot access requirements for non-major party nominees, and H.B. 4130, which requires the Secretary of State's Office to develop procedures for adequately certifying electronic poll books.

In addition, as part of public testimony, the League of Women Voters of Texas presented an analysis of counties' election websites with regards to what election information they include that would be helpful to voters. I am proud to say Williamson County and the Williamson County Elections Department received an Outstanding rating!

Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee to meet in February
The Culture, Recreation & Tourism Committee is holding its first Interim Hearing on Thur., Feb. 20th at 1:00 pm at the Victoria College Emerging Technology Complex in Victoria, Texas. The committee is meeting to hear invited and public testimony on each subject of Interim Charge #1, listed below.

• H.B. 1300 and H.B. 2321, which relate to the regulation of oyster harvesting and to cultivated oyster mariculture. Monitor the implementation of the cultivated oyster mariculture program, the implementation of increased penalties related to the regulation of oyster harvesting, and the effectiveness of these state laws as related to the protection, conservation, and sustainability of oysters in Texas coastal waters.
