International Traveler’s COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Lifted at the Canadian Border

Thanks to Elise’s constant advocacy, the vaccine mandate for international travelers at our Canadian Border has finally been lifted by the Biden Administration. Elise released the following statement in celebration of this draconian mandate being lifted:

“Following my repeated advocacy to the United States and Canadian governments, as of May 12th, the Department of Homeland Security will not require international travelers entering the United States at land ports of entry to be vaccinated against COVID-19. The lifting of this authoritarian mandate for Northern Border travelers is long overdue. It is shameful that President Biden has waited this long to lift the draconian COVID-19 travel restrictions, which have been devastating for Upstate New York and North Country’s families and our economy. With the COVID national emergency finally ending and this vaccine mandate lifted, communities throughout Upstate New York and the North Country can return to the freedom of uninterrupted travel across our Northern Border."

This week Elise introduced legislation to make Plattsburgh International Airport an official port of entry. This bill would give PBG the resources to hire new CBP agents and boost tourism to Upstate New York and the North Country. Read Elise’s statement in The Sun below:





“I’m working to ensure Plattsburgh International Airport is equipped with the resources it needs to continue meeting the transportation needs of families in Upstate New York and the North Country and providing access for tourists visiting our region. The Border Airport Enhancement Act will provide the Plattsburgh International Airport with access to important services and also support CBP in its efforts to hire new agents. I will continue pushing for results on behalf of our communities in New York’s 21st District.”

The House GOP Leadership introduced the Secure our Borders Act to mitigate the surge of illegal immigrants flowing over our border because of President Trump’s border policy, Title 42, ending on Thursday. Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik issued the following joint statement to emphasize the importance of the Secure our Borders Act:

“President Biden created an unprecedented crisis at our borders. On day one, Biden halted construction of the southern border wall, prevented Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from doing its job to keep our country safe, and took immediate steps to end the Migrant Protection Protocols and other successful enforcement policies. His open-border agenda predictably led to a national security and humanitarian crisis at America’s borders that continues to this day.

“For over two years, President Biden and Congressional Democrats have ignored the crisis they created while House Republicans have been hard at work listening, especially to Americans and communities affected, and crafting solutions, as promised in our Commitment to America.

“H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, fulfills our promise to the American people to deliver solutions to a crisis that affects not just cities and states along the border – but every city and state across the country. With Title 42 ending on May 11, and a surge of illegal immigration already occurring, we cannot afford to be blind to the truth, as the Biden administration has been for over two years.
