Good morning, team. ☕
In my last election, I had more conversations than I can count with folks across IL-17. One especially memorable chat happened just after we launched when I was knocking doors for signatures to get my name on the ballot.
It was one of my neighbors a few streets down who turned out to be a staunch, Trump-supporting Republican. If any of my staff were with me, they probably would have had me turn tail. Instead, I made it a point to listen. And I was happy to find he was willing to return the favor.
We obviously didn’t agree on everything, but when it came to the issues facing our district, we found a lot of common ground. In the end, he ended up placing one of my signs in his yard! Never mind that it would eventually end up a few feet from his Trump one... 😳
If you only watch cable news, you might be tricked into thinking politics is all chaos and noise. The truth is, when you meet folks face to face, you’ll find you have a lot more in common than you think. That’s why I’m so big on door-to-door canvassing and meeting directly with voters. Without the distractions, productive conversations are possible!
To win in a tough district like mine, we can’t leave any stone unturned. That means not writing off anyone – especially given that I represent everyone's interests in Congress. We’ll need to find as many new supporters as we can, and a big piece of doing that means having the grassroots funding to make it happen.
With a new opponent now in the race, I’m not leaving anything up to chance. That’s why I’m asking you to chip in $3 (or whatever you can) to my re-election campaign today.
Your support powers this campaign.
Thanks, I hope you enjoy your Sunday.
Eric
