Dear Friends,
It has been a busy time in Washington and in our community: wrapping up Jobs Month, the State of the Union, and more. Here are some updates on what we've been up to:

Rep. Chrissy Houlahan speaks with Kirby Powell, vice president of operations for Saucony Creek Brewing Company, during her tour of the refurbished Franklin Street Station in Reading. |
A Jam-Packed End To Jobs Month:
We wrapped up our January Jobs Month with a jam-packed day visiting a new small business (Saucony Creek Craft Brewery + Pub), stopping by the Reading Fightin Phils stadium, and hosting an employee town hall at Titus Company. At all three, we learned about the positive impact these businesses have on our community and how the work we're doing in Congress can better elevate them. As a member of the Small Business Committee and a former entrepreneur, I know how critical it is that our federal government support these businesses that provide hundreds of jobs to people across our community.
Some other January highlights:
- I toured affordable housing communities and convened a roundtable of local leaders and stakeholders about the necessity of affordable housing in our community. Far too many people commute from long distances on crumbling transportation infrastructure due to the high costs of rent in our district. We're working to find legislative fixes to make sure that people can commute safely and efficiently to good-paying jobs and affordable housing.
- I spoke on the House Floor about Jobs Month and how we're working hard to ensure our economy is working for every Pennsylvanian. It is vital to support our small businesses, which are the backbone of our economy, and to assist our workforce in adapting to new technologies.
- I launched the first ever Women in STEM Caucus. This bipartisan caucus is a group of Members dedicated to advancing the important role women and underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) play in boosting our economy and preparing our community for 21st century jobs.
What's On Deck For February: Health Care
|
Rep. Chrissy Houlahan sits down with her State of the Union guest, Ted Trevorrow. |
This February, we're focused on Health Care, the number one issue I hear about from members of our community. Just this week, I attended the State of the Union with my guest Edward (Ted) Trevorrow, a Facilities Coordinator/Affordable Care Act and Medicare Specialist at La Comunidad Hispana (LCH) in Kennett Square, PA. Both Ted and I share a firm belief that every Pennsylvanian should be able to access quality and affordable health care. I am grateful to Ted for his steadfast commitment to an Affordable Care Act that serves everyone in our community, even the most vulnerable populations.
February also marks Black History Month. Throughout the month, we are highlighting the historic contributions some of the Black leaders in our community have made.
Follow along on social media as we highlight leaders in our community. As educators, public servants, clergy members, and entrepreneurs—they strengthen our community. You can’t be what you can't see!
