Hi John,

For the State of the Union, each Representative is given the opportunity to bring a guest and I want to introduce you to who I invited last night: Ben Tielle, a constituent of the 8th district.

On Monday, Ben’s healthcare ran out and he will now be forced to get his own coverage. While this is a daunting task for anyone, Ben has pre-existing conditions -- having suffered a heart attack a few years ago on top of diabetes.

Ben was my honored guest last night because I want to clearly show the GOP who they are hurting in their fight against the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Currently Republicans are trying to dismantle the ACA in the courts which would mean that people like Ben wouldn’t be able to afford his medication or independently gain health insurance.

See, the ACA provides a guarantee that people with pre-existing conditions can get access to healthcare. That guarantee is what Americans with pre-existing conditions (like Ben) rely on to get coverage if they lose a current policy, but that would be scrapped if Republicans got their way.

Meanwhile, while in Congress I have fought for measures that would strengthen healthcare and lower prescription drug costs for people like Ben. I hope to continue my work but I do need help from everyday Americans like you to ensure I win this November. Mind chipping in $10 (or whatever you can) to ensure I have the resources needed to win re-election in a tossup district this year?
