Dear John,

For more than two decades, Fox News has spewed right-wing lies and hate. The damage that Fox News has done to our democracy is incalculable.

But right now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to get Fox News taken off the air for good.

Really, it’s true. Let me explain.

Fox News is currently in the midst of renegotiating several major contracts with cable companies like Spectrum, Comcast, and Cox. These companies pay huge fees for the right to carry Fox News — and this money is absolutely critical to Fox because so many companies refuse to run ads on the channel. And of course, those fees are passed on to cable subscribers.

Now Fox wants to jack up this “Fox fee” to over $1.8 billion to help cover the costs of its massive defamation settlements. But if the cable companies simply refuse to pay the higher fee, Fox News is in deep, deep trouble.

That’s why we must act now and mobilize every cable subscriber in America who doesn’t watch Fox News to tell their cable company: “Don’t let Fox News raise my bill. Say no to increasing the Fox fee!”

Fox News has already bullied cable companies into paying disproportionately high fees by talking about their negotiations on air and scaring Fox viewers into calling their cable providers directly. Some analysts estimate that Fox is already overcharging the cable companies by two or three times its market value.

If Fox is able to push through these even higher fees, your cable bill will immediately go up, and you will be helping to bail out Fox Corporation, even if you never watch Fox News.

But there are far more people who don’t watch Fox News than those who do, and if we all make our voices heard, we have a real opportunity to get Fox News off the air.

After paying $787.5 million to settle the defamation lawsuit by Dominion Voting Systems, and with other major defamation lawsuits still pending, Fox News is in a weaker financial position than ever before. It’s already alienated most advertisers with its racist, hateful programming.

This is the moment when we could finally deplatform Fox News for good.
