The Problem: American hospitals price-gouge patients, fail to inform them about financial aid options, and then when they can’t pay the exorbitant bills, resort to predatory collections practices.

Medical debt forces many Americans to cut back on food and put their life on credit cards. It’s the #1 cause of bankruptcy, but it doesn’t just drain bank accounts. Lives are cut short when people put off care for fear of debt.
